The Parkway FAQ

Here are some common questions and our answers to them. Any other questions can be added to your booking request, or talked through over the phone.

If I have my vehicle maintained at The Parkway Crew Shop, can that void my factory warranty?

Regular maintenance and oil changes on today’s vehicles is very important. If you have a new vehicle still under factory warranty, you can have it serviced with us and your factory warranty will remain in effect. Many will be surprised to discover that there is no clear “yes” or “no” answer in respect to vehicle warranties and all repair services. Some assume that any alterations or services they have done to their vehicle outside of the dealership will automatically void their warranty. This is not true, and there are laws in Canada to protect against this. The Canadian law that encompasses this is the Consumer Protection Acts. In the US it is the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act. These consumer protections are very similar. But, with some specific alterations there can be exceptions, for example major modification of a system that fails, due to incompetent workmanship and non- OEM or OES parts. Check with your provincial government for specifics. In general terms, your vehicle manufacturer’s warranty does stay in effect when you have regularly scheduled maintenance performed at a qualified facility, that uses OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) parts and procedures.

Can I wait while my car is being serviced?

While we work very hard to get you back on the road as quickly as possible, we provide a thourough service that will sometimes take a little longer than a Quick-lube. We do our best to arrange for your ride to and from home if no other arrangements are available to you. We will usuually complete your full service within a few hours.

Do you provide estimates over the phone?

We would love to give you an estimate over the phone but sometimes it is a disservice to you to do a “phone estimate”. Many times we have found people are trying to compare prices with other shops for a needed maintenance or repair. There can be many options that a vehicle can have that will change the price of the estimate. We have found many times that our competitors are trying to “sell” services and repairs that may not be needed, or they have misdiagnosed the problem. Proper diagnostics need to be done on your vehicle before an accurate estimate can be given. The best thing you can do is bring your vehicle by and let one of our certified technicians take a look at your vehicle.

What if I can not afford all the repairs? Do you have a credit payment plan available?

Some fleet customers like to have their monthly charges be billed on revolving credit, which we can accomodate a 30 day term plan. For our retail customer, we are happy to prioritize the work that is the most important for your safety, and tell you up front what can wait so you can budget for these expenses.

What does it mean when the Check Engine Light comes on? Can I still keep driving?

It may or may not be a serious problem. Sometimes this light may come on simply because your gas cap is not on tight. But, it also could be a warning of a serious problem. The Parkway Crew has the most sophisticated diagnostic scan equipment available today. We will analyze your vehicle and determine what the issue is.

What kind of oil is best for my vehicle?

The manufacturer recommends different weights and viscosity options depending on your engine and the climate that you live in. We evaluate each make and model, driving habits, and average temperature of your driving environment to determine what type of oil you need.

How often do I need to get the oil changed?

Manufacturers’ recommend every three to six months or every 4,800 km. Is it possible to spread it out longer? Yes, however the cost of oil and a filter is very inexpensive when compared to the expense of replacing parts as a result of sludge build-up or condensation issues in your engine. Some newer vehicles boast not having to change the oil for longer. If you’re not sure, we recommend a vehicle check at least every 6 months or 7,000 km on the following systems: Brakes, Belts, Tires, Hoses and Fluids.

Do you offer Commercial Vehicle Inspections on trucks and trailers?

Absolutely! Simply get in touch with us and we will book your next appointment for a 6 month or 12 month Government Certified Vehicle Inspection Service.

Do you offer Inspection Services on trailers that have previously been written off by ICBC?

We can definately look into providing you with that service depending on the circumstances and laws that surround your particular situation. We work closely with CVSE who can provide answers to questions that do arise for this special type of inspection and repair service.
